Christmas in Levi

Santa in Levi

Christmas in Levi is a magical time of year. The colors of kaamos (polar night) paint the sky. The white snow brightens the twilight. Candles and Christmas lights sparkle in the icy air.

Santa is known to show up in Levi too.  If he's not in the village, he will be at home waiting to greet youngsters who find him by reindeer sled or snowmobile.

The smells of Christmas are everywhere from the special Christmas buns to the Finnish Christmas ham.

At Levi there has always been a white Christmas. In recent years the southern part of Lapland has been questionable for snowfall at Christmas. In 2006 snow was being trucked in for reindeer sled rides to the south.  Levi has remained white! The first snow begins to fall in September and begins to stick in October. While often there is a warm spell in late November, by mid-December the temperatures drop and the snow begins to fall once again.  There will be plenty of snow for snowmobiling, reindeer and husky sled rides and skiing. Even if the snow is not deep, the snow cannons will ensure good skiing too.
