A Sapphire Dawn

The sapphire dawn of an arctic winter day casts a clear and crystalline blue glow over the earth.  Cloudy or clear the light is the same.

In the beginning, the sky is dark but the earth is not. There is a deep and magical glow that allows you to see.  Gradually, very gradually, the glow becomes light.

In late January, the process of dawn takes almost two hours.  The photos on this page were taken between 8:00 and 9:45 in the morning.
