Immeljärvi

`
Looking across Immeljarvi in the morning

As the morning dawns on the northern end of Immeljarvi a soft glow of reflected sunlight peaks from behind the foothills of Katkatunturi.

At any time of day it is easy to see why the ancient Sami people named the lake Immeljärvi. In Sami, Immeljarvi means "God's Lake". Since the earliest times, this beautiful lake has been a sacred place for the native people of Lapland.

Nestled in the valley between Levitunturi and Katkatunturi ("Wolverine Fell" in Sami), the lake is as picturesque as the names surrounding it.  Whether in the fresh light of morning or in the light of the setting sun,  it reflects the natural and varied beauty of Lapland.

Sun over Immeljarvi

The late afternoon sun rushes up the frozen lake between the Levi and Katka fells.
