Särestöniemi's Studio

The Sarestoniemi StudioSarestoniemi's studio and apartment sit atop a hill on the family farm.

Sarestoniemi's original studio and home was along the Ounasjoki near his gallery. This building burned in 1977.  He rebuilt on a hilltop the following year.

The new building was designed by renowned Finnish architects Reima and Raili Pietilä who designed the Presidential Palace in Helsinki.  In the studio they incorporated modernism into log construction.

The studio comprises half the downstairs and is filled with light. The other half is a kitchen, dining room and functional rooms.  The upstairs houses Sarestoniemi's sleeping quarters, sauna and guest rooms.

The interior is much as it was when Särestöniemi was alive.  His paints are out, his smock ready and his books are on the table.
